Wilmington Island Park District
The Wilmington Island Park District takes great pride in offering a wonderful program-based park district for it's residents. From basketball leagues to computer classes, gardening to hosting the Annual Island City Classic Hockey Tournament, there is definitely something for everyone in The Island City!!
In addition to offering programs, the park district also maintains all of the city parks. The reason Wilmington is called "The Island City" because the Kankakee River splits into an offshoot called the Mill Race. The land between the two bodies of water form an 'island'. Divided down the middle by historic Route 66, it has now become known as the 'North Island' and the 'South Island'- a most unique geography that only Wilmington has! It allows for gorgeuos river views while picnicking, playing, or fishing along the riverbank. Working with the WBSA baseball club and Wilmington Garden Club, the park district continues to keep our parks clean and green all season!
